ANTARES RECICLAGE WINS THE 2014 ANA AWARD FOR GOOD WATER MANAGEMENT AND USE PRACTICES.
The ANA Award is the biggest award in Brazil when the theme is water and this year it received a record 452 entries.
On the evening of Wednesday, December 3, 2014, in the auditorium of Caixa Cultural de Brasília, the National Water Agency (ANA) announced the winning works of this edition in the seven categories in dispute: Companies; Teaching; Government; Press; NGO; Basin Organisms; and Technological Research and Innovation. The projects point out ways to ensure good quality water in sufficient quantity for the development and quality of life of current and future generations.
At the 2014 ANA Awards, a state that had never won the award came away with two winners: Rio de Janeiro. Works from Rio de Janeiro won the Press and Basin Organizations categories. The other five ANA Award Trophies, pieces created by the Italian master glassmaker Mario Seguso, went to Ceará (Government), Minas Gerais (NGO), Pará (Teaching), Paraná (Businesses) and Pernambuco (Research and Technological Innovation). Another prize for the winners will be a trip to the next World Water Forum, which will take place from April 12 to 17, 2015 in South Korea. During the world's largest water event, the winners will present their work to people from all over the planet at Brazil Pavilion, the country's stand at the Forum.
The location of the finalists demonstrates the national reach of the award, which featured works from all five regions: Paraná (4), Minas Gerais (3), Rio de Janeiro (3), Pará (2), Rio Grande do Sul (2 ), Amapá (1), Bahia (1), Ceará (1), Mato Grosso (1), Mato Grosso do Sul (1), Pernambuco (1) and São Paulo (1). In this edition of the ANA Award, all states and the Federal District had works submitted.
In his speech, the director-president of the National Water Agency, Vicente Andreu, outlined an overview of the water situation and resource management in the country. Andreu also pointed to the award as a showcase of good practices to be replicated across Brazil. “You, who are here competing for the ANA Award, help us a lot in terms of strengthening this issue [of water resources] within Brazilian society”, he highlighted.
The Minister of the Environment, Izabella Teixeira, pointed to the award as a way of understanding the changes experienced in society from an environmental point of view. “Awarding is not just recognizing those who do it; it is recognizing that a change of attitude is happening in the country. This is the best message around the awards in the entire environmental area”, she highlights. Also participating in the ceremony were the Minister of National Integration, Francisco Teixeira, and the Vice President of Government of Caixa, José Carlos Medaglia Filho, among other authorities.
Caixa Econômica Federal is the exclusive sponsor of the ANA Award and the Brazilian Network of River Basin Organizations (REBOB) supports the event.
